The Science College status has encouraged cross-curricular activities with days to be organised between Maths and History (Enigma Machine) Science and Art (Bugs Show). These have proved very popular with pupils. In addition special events and competitions have been organised in both Science and Mathematics. E.g. Building bridges and production of make-up in Science and The NRICH Road Show in mathematics. Pupils take part in national competitions in both Science and Mathematics. The number of clubs has increased. The Science department now run junior and senior Science clubs, a bio-technology club and a space society. A puzzle club is run by the Mathematics department. Having registered as an ECDL centre this course is now offered as an extra activity to year 8 pupils.
An equipment library has been set up for primary schools and we award financial grants to primary feeder schools who aim to promote science in their school. A member of the Science department also visits feeder schools giving lessons to KS2 pupils. Links with the on-site Adult Education Centre have increased with a member of the science department teaching A level courses. The adult education centre advertises directly to our parents via our parent mail. Links with University of Greenwich at Medway have greatly increased with visits both ways for staff and pupils. A lecture programme has been set up and specific science careers events have been organised.
