RMGS CAREER NETWORKING EVENING, FOR ALUMNI, STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Last term we ran the first RMGS Career Networking Evening. We were grateful to the 27 Alumni who came in to meet Year 11 and Year 12 students and parents, to offer advice about their career area.
Last term (6) we ran the first RMGS Career Networking Evening. We were grateful to the 27 Alumni who came in to meet Year 11 and Year 12 students and parents, to offer advice about their career area. This was followed by a Reception enabling our participating Alumni to meet or catch up. We hope that important connections were made for all, and that we can repeat the event next year on an even larger scale.
The Career Networking Evening came on the eve of the Post 18 Applications Course, a mammoth two-day event organised by Mrs Horstrup, Head of 6th Form, which offered our Year 12 students a wide choice of activities. All were offered mock interviews – for university, employment, apprenticeships, School Leaver schemes and other routes – according to their areas of interest and in line with their plans. Not many schools are able to offer this and we are grateful to Mr Price for organising the complex interview timetable. Over the two days students also received personal mentoring sessions and talks from Alumni, as well as talks from established professionals, often leaders in their fields of endeavour, on different qualifications and career paths.
Launch of the RMGS Alumni Network
All former students of RMGS are automatically RMGS Alumni, forming a community now spreading worldwide. We are working to make contact, welcome and keep in touch with as many Alumni as possible, to build up a thriving career and social network, useful to both our Alumni and to the current students at the school. Membership is free and Alumni join the Network by completing this form. In due course we hope to have a link to a secure networking area, and other resources, directly accessible from the school website. There is also an Alumni Twitter account - @RMGSAlumni – for alumni networking and news.
Many of our Alumni indicate that they are willing to help occasionally by supporting current students with advice, or coming in to RMGS to help with talks, career networking evenings and practice interviews, and this is very much appreciated by students and staff.
