I only started to look into what RMGS has become because of the reunion of the Class of 91. I was at RMGS from 1984 to 1991, so Ron Bell, that stalwart of the football team, is one of my cohorts. Think I used to sit next to him in Geography.
Other memories - first thing that springs to mind is RMGS playing in the Kent Cup Final at Priestfield. I don't think we won, but some of the team members were Andrew Balderstone, Nick Dench, Anthony Marsh, Gary Costen, Ron Bell, Andrew Sprowell, Brian... I also remember a lot of Sports Days - I was in Scott and we always seemed to have a good team. I remember Gregg Branes winning the 1500m by almost a lap, Jeff Little being unbeatable in the shot, Anthony Marsh always winning the 100m, Adrian Canning in the long jump and John Kay in the high jump (I think). I won the discuss. Of course I remember the various form tutors I had too - Mrs. Hepburn for three years, then Mr. Stride and finally Mr. Mudge who took to dressing as a pink chicken in Charity Week.
I could go on like this for hours, but I won't. A quick word on what I did - I went to Brunel and studied Maths, which I followed up with a PhD in Applied Maths (Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Garrett and Mrs. Berry would be proud). Whilst at Brunel, I captained the basketball team there for two years (I'm pleased to see that RMGS now has some basketball fixtures) and also found that I was quite good at tenpin bowling. I went on to play for the British University Sports Association title in 1999. I now live in West London and have been married for four years with one child on the way.
Looking forward to the reunion,
Dan Warren
