Stephen Moll (1986)

In a discussion with a friend about odd school uniforms with a colleague, I was recounting the girls uniform when I was at Gillingham Technical High School (as it was then). In my quest to see if there happened to be any pictures on the internet. Well I found some, and I found a class photo with me in it from 1982! Its a shame its so small. I came across the RMGS Alumni page, and noticed that you had lost some records.

I don't think I was ever registered with the school Alumni organisation, but here is some snippets about me and my life since leaving RMGS back in 1986.

I left there to join GEC Avionics in Rochester, in a sandwich course doing Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Loughborough University of Technology.

After graduating in 1991 and spending a year sailing and picking fruit, I joined a joint venture company called BAeSEMA as a software coder. After writing, testing and integrating software for about 4 years, I became a hardware support engineer in the same company, overseeing the installation of naval combat management systems on the Royal Navy Type-23 Duke-class frigates.

BAeSEMA has changed its name and corporate affiliations several times over the nearly 15 years I have been working with them. They are now settled on BAE SYSTEMS Insyte, and I fulfil a role there as a Senior Systems Engineer, involved with the design, creation and demonstration of new technologgy demonstrators for battlespace systems centred on command, control and communication. I also act as a trouble shooter around the company, helping to solve technical problems with systems, ranging from simple mechanical issues , through to networking problems.

Outside of work, I have been trying to relax as much as possible, as working life has been very hectic and exhausting, a situation that should ease in a few months time (hopefully). I have been married for nearly two years to a Brazillian, no kids yet but we're thinking about it.

I enjoy sailing when I can, both yachts and dinghies. I live close to the Thames in south west London, so walking or cycling is another favourite passtime, as long as it involves a beer or two along the way. I maintain a high fascination for electronics and computers, so tinkering consumes some time, as does riding or tinkering with my Italjet Dragster scooter. Any remaining time seems to be eaten up with the needs of my wife, who does Brazillian dance shows and classes all over the place, and therefore is often in need of a lift.

Cheers

Stephen Moll
