Learning Support & SEN

The Special Educational Needs Department at Rainham Mark consists of eight members of staff; the Special Educational Needs Coordinator, School Support Inclusion Manager, five Learning Support Assistants and part-time administration clerk.

We believe strongly in inclusive education and strive to ensure that every young person attending Rainham Mark feels equally valued and respected, reaches their full potential and is able to participate on an equal basis in the many different activities within the school community.  We actively celebrate difference.

The SEN Department at Rainham Mark does not operate in isolation. All teaching and support staff work closely with the Department to ensure that, as far as reasonably possible, the learning needs of pupils are identified and addressed. Through the relationship and partnership with parents and external agencies, if necessary, we look to develop teaching and learning strategies that embrace all learners.

The School has a comprehensive policy for meeting the needs of those pupils who have a special educational need.

The four primary areas of need are:

  • Cognition and learning
  • Communication and interaction
  • Social, mental and emotional health
  • Sensory and/ or physcial need

We believe that any provision should:

  • match the needs of the individual pupil
  • take account of the wishes and feelings of the pupil
  • be in partnership with the pupil's parents

The SEN Department are a caring and dedicated team who strive hard to ensure that those with learning difficulties and disabilities receive the necessary support to achieve their full potential and enjoy the experience of being a pupil at this school.
