Lord of the Flies - March 2014
A highly successful production performed over three nights of the classic William Golding novel has been staged as this year's School Play.
A group of school children are marooned on a remote island with no adults. As the story unfolds, so does the savage nature of the children, culminating in a shocking conclusion. Performed in the Drama Studio, the play explored pertinent themes such as rites of passage and bullying. The production adopted an 'immersive theatre' approach, as the play was performed all around the audience in a promenade style and made use of Brechtian Theatre technique in its staging; a style our Year 10 and 11 GCSE Drama students have been learning about in lessons.
The cast was made up of students from Years 9 - 12 and featured Christian Hatcher as 'Ralph', Katie Tarrant as 'Jackie' and Sara Akhazzan as 'Piggy' in the lead roles. This year, as part of their AS Level in Performing Arts, Sixth Form students Kerry Boughton, Jess Carnell and Issi Belsom led the way in terms of Stage Management, Lighting and Set Design - in order to complete a significant coursework project that once again displayed the synchronicity between our curricular and extra-curricular programme in Drama.
I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was involved in the production, from the cast to the crew to all the helpers. Everyone had a fantastic time working on the production. Thank you also to those people who came to see the performances and gave their support.
