At Rainham Mark we have a wide range of exciting out of school activities from which offer students an opportunity to develop their hobbies and interests. We organise lunch-time and after-school clubs for sport, art, music and other subjects. Computer rooms are open to use at lunch time and after school.
Each year the school organised a very lively Charity Week during which we raise thousands of pounds for good causes. Students have an opportunity to take part in the annual Medway Festival of Speech, Drama and Music each May, as well as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Young Enterprise scheme.
Sports and Games
Team sports are played at various levels against other schools or clubs: football, netball, cricket, badminton, athletics, tennis, table tennis and golf. Inter-form matches, gym and dance evenings and our annual Sports Day all contribute to the sporting life of the school.
Music is an important part of life at RMGS and sees students participate in a wide variety of activities. Students' learning is well supported in the Music block, which, in addition to two classrooms, features four practice rooms, a recording studio and a recital hall. One of the classrooms also functions as a music specialist ICT suite. Extra-Curricular opportunities exist for students to perform in ‘Cello Choir, Vocal Chords (keyboard and vocals), Junior Wind Band, Brass Group, Big Band, Guitar Club, Ukulele Club, Jam Club, String Group, and Music Technology Club. These groups perform regularly in school concerts and in the wider community. Every year all proceeds from the Christmas Concerts go to charity, most recently, the sum of £2100 was presented to the Wisdom Hospice.
Past students have also been successful in local competitions, such as the Medway Young Musician of the Year, and students regularly go on to study Music at university and conservatoire.
Our well-equipped Drama Studio provides excellent facilities for drama workshops; larger productions take place in our spacious Hall.
Trips are organised either as part of a subject syllabus, such as Geography field trips, or as cultural or recreational visits. Residential visits are arranged to France, Germany and Spain. Local outings to theatres, museums and exhibitions are always popular.
