Rewards and Sanctions

Rewards are offered in school through the House system and are achieved through the following criteria:

R1 – Teacher awards (worth 2 House points)

An R1 may be awarded during a lesson for a particularly high level of effort, an outstanding piece of work/homework, or for displaying one of the RMGS character traits.

R2 – Department awards (worth 10 House points)

An R2 may be awarded to a student who shows excellent effort or achievement in a subject over the course of a term.

R3 – Half Colour (worth 45 House points)

An R3 will be awarded to anyone who fulfils one of the ‘half-colour’ criteria from one of the four ‘pillars’ of the house system; Academic, Sporting, Arts, Citizenship. Details of these can be found on the school website.

R4 – Full Colour (worth 90 House points)

An R4 will be awarded to anyone who fulfils one of the ‘full-colour’ criteria from one of the four ‘pillars’ of the house system; Academic, Sporting, Arts, Citizenship. Details of these can be found on the school website.

However, sanctions will also be implemented where necessary and in the following way:

C1 – Teacher Detention (a loss of 1 House point)

A C1 may be given to a student who is persistently disruptive, fails to hand in homework or fails to complete sufficient class work in a lesson or is rude or impolite to a member of staff. A detention will result with the member of staff who gave the C1.

C2 – Department Detention (a loss of 5 House points)

A C2 may be given to a student who has already been given one or more than one C1s, but the behaviour or lack of work has persisted. This will result in a 30 minute detention with the head of the department in which the behaviour or lack of work has occurred.

C3 – Friday after school (a loss of 20 House points)

A C3 detention may be given for more serious breaches of the school behaviour policy or to students who persistently fail to respond positively to previous lower level detentions. They can only be given by Heads of Department and Heads of Year.

C4 – Internal/External Exclusion (a loss of 35 House points)

A C4 consequence may be given for the most serious breaches of the school behaviour policy or to students who accumulate more than three C3 detentions in a mini term. They will only be given in consultation with a senior member of staff.

Each pupil therefore contributes to the success of their House and will receive individual and potentially collective rewards.
